Sixteen tables. Two of the seven nights fill them.
Worth knowing which two, because turning up at seven on a Friday to a full room is how people decide a shop is not for them.
How full, by night
-
Friday, from about 5:30
Draft fills every seat and the overflow plays Commander at the back. If you want a draft seat, ring before four and it is held with no deposit. If you want a quiet table, this is the wrong night.
fullring ahead -
Saturday, noon to about four
Yu-Gi-Oh takes the middle of the room and the counter is buying collections all day. Loud, busy, and the best atmosphere in the week.
full -
Wednesday, five to nine
Half the room is under fifteen and half of it is board games. Busy, but there is always a table free because nobody is playing rounds.
busy -
Tuesday and Thursday, before six
Nearly empty. Come in, take a table, spread a collection out, ask a hundred questions. This is when the shop is at its most useful.
open -
Sunday, all day
Twelve to six, nothing organised until three. The best afternoon in the week to teach somebody a game without an audience.
open
The two house rules
- Drinks have lids. Food stays at the front four tables. Not fussiness. A spilled soda across somebody's binder is a four figure conversation and it has happened twice.
- Anybody can ask anybody to stop. If a person at your table is making the game unpleasant, tell whoever is behind the counter and it is dealt with that evening, not noted for later. This is the rule that decides what a game shop feels like and it is the one we enforce hardest.
Under sixteen
Welcome any time the shop is open, and no adult has to stay for Wednesday league. For the evening events after seven we would rather a parent was in the building, which is why there are chairs and decent coffee by the window and half the parents end up learning to play by October.
Birthdays and private hire
The back eight tables can be taken for a party on a Sunday or a Tuesday. Two hours, up to sixteen kids, somebody from here teaching a game the whole time, and a pack each to open at the end. Fifteen dollars a head, and you bring the cake. Ring at least two weeks out.
Parking
The front lot is shared and it is genuinely full on Friday and Saturday nights. There are eighteen more spaces behind the building, they belong to the shop, and they are almost always empty because nobody knows about them. Take the alley on the north side.
Getting in
Level entry from the front lot, no step. The aisles between tables are wide enough for a chair, and two of the sixteen tables are a height that works. Say when you ring and one of those will be free when you arrive.
Selling us a collection
Bring the whole thing, unsorted, in whatever it is currently in. We will go through it at the counter with you watching, tell you what is worth money and what is not, and hand back everything we are not buying rather than keeping it in a bulk pile. Cash or credit, credit is worth about thirty percent more, and there is genuinely no pressure either way.
Ring before you drive on a Friday.
Thirty seconds tells you whether there is a seat, and the seat gets held with your first name and nothing else.
